Islanders ink Mike Comrie to one-year extension

The Islanders scratched another potential unrestricted free agent from their list before Tuesday's 3 p.m. trade deadline - agreeing to a one-year, $4 million contract extension with top scorer Mike Comrie.

They also moved some salary in trading defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron and removed a recurring headache in cutting bait with lightning rod winger Chris Simon, whose season included more games lost to suspension than actual appearances for the Islanders.

Simon, who last week returned from a 30-game suspension for skate-stomping Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu in December, was dealt to Minnesota for a sixth-round draft pick. The 36-year-old Simon, a 17-year veteran with First Nation roots and longtime ties to Isles coach Ted Nolan, also was suspended 25 games for a stick-swinging incident against Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg last March.

Lynch mob hacks Kenyan policeman to death

A 3,000-strong mob armed with bows and arrows, spears, clubs and machetes has murdered a police officer in the violence-hit Rift Valley region of western Kenya.

The lynching took place near Ainamoi, after the officer was accused of wounding a civilian when police fired on protesters yesterday.

Peter Aliwa, a police commander, said it was the first reported killing of a policeman in the violence that has raged in Kenya since disputed elections a month ago. "The police officer injured three attackers before he was overpowered and lynched on the spot," he said.

The police have shot scores of people in riots and protests accross Kenya since Raila Odinga, the opposition leader, accused President Kibaki of rigging his re-election on December 27.

Survey: Journey to Rid Gay Attractions Not Harmful

Change for a man wrestling with homosexual attractions is not only possible but the pursuit of change can also be a positive experience, a recent survey shows.

The survey by People Can Change, a non-profit and non-religious organization that offers training, healing and support for men with unwanted same-sex feelings, revealed that 9 out of 10 men who participated in a weekend program reported a decrease in distress, shame and self-condemnation. They also felt better about themselves.

People Can Change founder Rich Wyler calls it an "incredibly vital" finding, especially at a time when psychologists, gay rights groups and other critics of ex-gay programs contend that the process of change out of homosexual attractions is harmful.

The organization surveyed men from across the country who participated in a program called "Journey Into Manhood" a 48-hour intensive personal-growth and self-discovery weekend for men serious about resolving unwanted homosexual feelings between January 2002 and December 2006.

Murray returns to bench as Senators visit Flyers

In 16 seasons as a head coach, Murray has won 665 games, and has a record of 100-46-18 with Ottawa.

The Senators were blanked by Boston, 4-0, on Tuesday for their second straight loss. It was also the club's sixth setback in eight games and ninth in its past 13.

Martin Gerber allowed three goals on 28 shots for Ottawa, which led the Eastern Conference for most of the season but is now two points behind New Jersey for the top spot. The Sens still lead the Northeast Division by a point over Montreal.

While Ottawa made its big trade acquisition on February 11, getting Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore from Carolina, it also added forward depth on Tuesday by getting Martin Lapointe from the Blackhawks for a sixth-round pick.

The Sens have lost four of their last five on the road and are 17-10-3 away from Ottawa this season.

Limbaugh defended Cunningham's use of Obama's middle name

Your guess is as good as mine, but I hope they don't shy away from that. This Hussein business -- that could backfire. I mean, it's so charged that it's -- it's almost one of those things that could arouse sympathy for Obama, but regardless, I can't believe that somebody's name is off limits. I just can't believe it.

[...]

LIMBAUGH: Now, I have a question about this business that we can't use Barack Hussein Obama or that if somebody in McCain's camp does, McCain's gonna apologize for it and, you know, get rid of this disparaging term. If Obama is given a free pass because of his father's heritage -- you know, one generation removed. I mean, if he's given a pass for that, then a question: Are all white Americans going to continue to be held responsible for their alleged racist forebears, multiple generations removed? Of course.

Ask Amy: Parents' sex question irks college coed

Dear Amy: I am a university student in my 20s. I've always had an honest relationship with my parents. If I start dating someone, they're involved in the relationship in the typical "concerned parent" role.

I'm OK with this because they don't overstep boundaries. But like any parents, they're concerned with whether I'm having sex.

I'm a virgin, so I can still give a truthful parent-approved response. However, my current relationship might be headed toward a sexual relationship. Should that happen, I intend to make the safest and most well-informed decisions possible.

I don't know how I should deal with the "sex question." My parents don't discuss their sex life with me (thank God), and I don't want to discuss mine with them. I really don't like the idea of lying to them, but I also believe that it isn't anyone else's business.

The Dark Knight

Other additions include Maggie Gyllenhaal, she takes over from Katie Holmes who has apparently had a conflict in shooting schedules so cannot appear, in the role of Rachel Dawes and Aaron Eckhart.

It has been heavily hinted that the Dark Knight will tell the origin of Heath Ledger's Joker who was already terrorising the street of Gotham at the end of Batman Begins.

The Dark Knight is set two years after Batman Begins and Batman and Gordan have teamed up with District Attorney Harvey Dent to help catch the Joker who's crimes are becoming more deadly.

As well as this Batman aka Bruce Wayne and Gordan are trying to clean up the streets of Gotham by trying to re-capture those freed at the end of the first movie, this includes Crane/Scarcrow despite Cillian Murphy not being named on the cast list.
