| Dora Bakoyanni ends visit to Cyprus
The authorities have been on the defensive ever since trying to contain the damage while the reputation of the police sinks to a new low. Papadopoulos has personally vouched for the safety of the person who captured the scenes on video in an effort to secure crucial testimony. Apparently, the mystery figure who took the film gave a copy of the tape to the Attorney General last December on the proviso he would not go public with it. "We couldn't show the tape to anybody because we had promised the person who gave to us not to do so. He still refuses to come forward," said the Attorney general. He said the case would greatly benefit if the mystery person submitted the original tape accompanied by an eye-witness account. Abhorrent In seeing the tape, Clerides, and his appointed criminal investigator Savvakis Nicolaides, understood the seriousness of the charges but those suspected of being involved were not suspended from duty.
Quick attacks highway robbery
FORMER Labor MP Harry Quick says money wanted for the Kingston bypass will be used to prop up northern marginal seats. Mr Quick said he would be surprised if the road was finished before 2010 because Tasmania now had to rely on the State Government to pay half the $30 million. On Tuesday, it was revealed that a budgeted plan by the previous federal government to spend $30 million on the bypass was off. The Rudd Government would keep its promise to half-fund the bypass, leaving the Lennon Government to fork out $15 million as agreed. Each year, daily traffic on the Southern Outlet grows by more than 1000 vehicles, frustrating peak-hour commuters. Mr Quick posted one of more than 50 comments on the Mercury website yesterday. "Why was I not surprised to read via the net in today's Mercury that once again the Federal Government had shafted the people of Franklin?" he wrote from Beijing.
Scottish & Newcastle deal marks the end of an era
The deal also raised concerns from the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) over consumer choice and the future of S&N's products which include John Smith's, Newcastle Brown Ale and Foster's alongside the familiar Scottish brands.Mike Benner, the organisation's chief executive, warned: "The inevitable result of consolidation is brewery closures, brand losses and less choice for Britain's consumers."S&N began in 1749 when Younger noticed a niche in the market. With plans for the New Town fast progressing, the construction sites were filled with working men.A canny Younger thought it a prudent business plan to quench their thirst, and soon, the likes of his Edinburgh Pale Ale found widespread favour. After two centuries of consolidation in its heartlands and a successful expansion internationally, S&N's portfolio held big-name brands including Kronenbourg 1664, McEwan's and Strongbow cider. From that humble brewery in Leith emerged one of Scotland's most successful companies, proud to still be headquartered in its home city, exemplified by its successful rebuttal of a takeover attempt by Australian brewer Elders IXL in 1988, when S&N's feisty political savvy made much of its Caledonian roots.According to Mr Waterson, that trait ought to be seen by Carlsberg and Heineken as an asset to build on.He said: "We appreciate that business must move on, but maintaining the ethos of S&N is vital.
Review: 'Definitely, Maybe' a ho-hum affair
This may be the most aptly-titled movie I've ever reviewed. It almost certainly has an ending - provisionally, at least - though it perhaps won't come soon enough for you. Speaking entirely for me. Definitely, Maybe tells the long-winded story (in flashback, mostly) of peripatetic gadfly Will Hayes (Ryan Reynolds, sporting a range of expression that would put most department store mannequins to shame), who must explain to his daughter Maya (wunderkind Abigail Breslin, acting rings around him) why it is that he's getting divorced from her mom. We are constrained from revealing the identity of that actress/character because the mystery surrounding which of three individuals she actually may be is what carries the drama portion of this melancholic romantic dramedy along to its eventual blessed conclusion, nearly two hours into your movie-viewing future.
Jack Nicholson warned Heath Ledger before mysterious death
HOLLYWOOD legend Jack Nicholson said he "warned" Heath Ledger before his death - as it emerged the cause of death will not be known for another 10 days. Nicholson and Ledger shared a bizarre connection - both played the Joker in Batman films and both had been taking a controversial anti-anxiety medication. The movie legend was dining at the Wolseley restaurant in London last night when a photographer told him about Heath’s passing. Jack, in Britain to promote new movie The Bucket List, replied "I warned him" then later said "I told him so". Asked about Ledger's death, Nicholson said: "Wasn't that horrible." The actor, who was wearing sunglasses at last night's premiere, said: "I took Ambien once. I fell asleep and then got a call and almost drove off a cliff 50 yards from my house.'' Reports have suggested that Ledger may have found playing the Joker role in the new Batman movie too much, and that the part left him unable to sleep and taking the medication Ambien.
Business briefs: Stereo seller punished for disobeying judge
A St. Albans man was found in contempt of court for disobeying a judge's order that he stop selling stereo equipment over the Internet, the state Attorney General's Office announced Friday. In 2004, Randy Boggess, who sold electronics online under the name Randy's Stereo Outlet, was ordered to stop doing any business in West Virginia. In November, the Attorney General's Office filed a petition in Kanawha Circuit Court, asking Judge Duke Bloom to find Boggess in contempt. The office had received complaints from three would-be customers from out of state who said they paid for high-end stereo equipment from Boggess, but never received the merchandise. At a hearing earlier this month, Boggess admitted that he had swindled the three individuals and failed to refund their money, the release states.
Hip-Hop Rumors: Fun Flicks From The Grammys!
If all goes Jay-Z's way, the rap mogul will tie rock legend Elvis for the most number one albums in history, a feat that depends on the success of the rapper's American Gangster album. Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, landed his ninth number one album last year with Kingdom Come, which sold about 680,000 in its first week, the rapper's best to date. The Kingdom Come album put Jay-Z in a tie with another iconic rock act, The Rolling Stones, who have landed number nine number one albums throughout their 40-year career. If Jay-Z's American Gangster sells well, only The Beatles would have offered the music world more number one albums, with an incredible 19. American Gangster's main opposition include Cassidy's highly anticipated album B.A.R.S.
Feeding the hungry
Answering the question, "How has God done good things in your life this week?", the youngsters are often eager to share their experiences. For the bulk of the remaining program, participants are put into groups by age level. While some are eating dinner, others are talking with adult leaders about the tests and challenges of their lives. With the group of older children, this portion of the evening can be an eye-opening experience. On a recent Wednesday night, leader Gretchen Fleming helped steer sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students through the murky waters of adolescence. In a support group-like setting, participants brought up typical childhood concerns such as fights on the school bus and dealing with the loss of a family pet. Others were facing more serious problems.

The first Marin baby of 2008 took an extra day to come into the world but bounced right into the arms of 17-year-old mother Kenia Ramos of San Rafael. Coleman: Come and get me!
CHRIS Coleman has shot to the front of the queue to become George Burley's successor at Saints. The former Fulham and Real Sociedad boss, who quit his post in Spain last week amid rumours he was to join Newcastle as Kevin Keegan's number two, has instead issued a "come and get me" plea to the Saints board. Coleman's agent Alan Smith - the former Crystal Palace manager - said: "Of course Chris will be interested. It's a good club and has a fantastic new stadium now. "Probably through nobody's fault, the club's under achieved a little bit but, for someone like Chris, with his enthusiasm, passion and freshness - and with what he has learned in Spain - it could be a good job. "In fairness, Southampton have only just settled the compensation package for George Burley and there is a bit of respect.
