Field Hockey Back on Track with Win Over Dartmouth
The Crimson (8-8, 4-2 Ivy) went up early and dominated against Dartmouth (5-10, 1-5), sharing the lead for less than two minutes and eventually pulling away, 3-1, to stay in the hunt for a share of the Ivy League title. Freshman back Maggie McVeigh kicked off the effort when she slammed in the first goal six minutes into the game. Though recorded as unassisted, the first goal—like the entire game—was a team effort. McVeigh's first shot drew Dartmouth goalie Ashley Heist out of the cage. The ball rolled to sophomore midfielder Kristin Bannon, who passed it to junior forward Tami Jafar. Jafar's ensuing shot was deflected back to McVeigh, who knocked home the ball to get Harvard on the scoreboard. “We came out and did what we planned to do and went through with our game plan," co-captain Jana Berglund said.
Dateless? An Angel to the Rescue
LONDON, FEB. 11, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Singles worried about spending the upcoming Valentine's Day by themselves are being encouraged to seek help through the prayers of an angelic matchmaker. A Web site of the Catholic Enquiry Office, part of an agency of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, is encouraging Catholic singles to pray a novena to the Archangel Raphael. Raphael is traditionally considered an ally in the realm of love and relationships thanks to the role he played in helping Sarah and Tobit in the Old Testament. The book of Tobit explains how Raphael delivered Sarah from an evil spirit that had brought about the death of seven husbands on seven successive wedding nights. Monsignor Keith Barltrop, director of the Catholic Enquiry Office, explained, "Many people have testified to the help they have received in finding a life partner through the prayerful help of the archangel.
Women turn on ‘traitor’ Oprah Winfrey for backing Barack Obama
So hostile has the response been that some suspect dirty tricks. "All the rude and hateful messages on here can’t be from Oprah fans," another visitor noted. "Someone’s campaign (wonder who?) is sabotaging the message boards." Winfrey received a rapturous reception when she campaigned with Obama last month. Yet several analysts warned that she might adversely affect his chances. Steve Ross, a history professor at the University of Southern California, said: "The moment a star opens their mouth and endorses one candidate, they alienate half their viewership." .

As one of the most popular groups to emerge in the post-grunge alternative rock aftermath, Weezer received equal amounts of criticism and praise for their hook-heavy guitar pop. Drawing from the heavy power pop of arena rockers like Cheap Trick and the angular guitar leads of the Pixies, Weezer leavened their melodies with doses of '70s metal learned from bands like Kiss. But what set the band apart was their geekiness. None of the members of Weezer, especially leader Rivers Cuomo, were conventional rockers -- they were kids that holed up in their garage, playing along with their favorite records when they weren't studying or watching TV. As a result, their music was infused with a quirky sense of humor and an endearing awkwardness that made songs like "Undone (The Sweater Song)," "Buddy Holly," and "Say It Ain't So" into big modern rock hits during 1994 and 1995.
Scotland has to fight for a fair deal
We must know what's been agreed in our name and hire lawyers and oil experts so we can ensure any deal is fair. If he is blocked by London, it should be made clear that independent Scotland will not accept a damaging treaty. Mr Salmond should alert the Danish, Irish and Icelandic governments. I am sure the Faroese, represented by Denmark, will be consulted and this will be a powerful argument for the Scottish government to use. Gordon Wilson is former director of the It's Scotland's Oil campaign .
McCain surges in crucial Tuesday races; Clinton and Obama will battle ...
World harmony, not only in political or military sense, but also in most other important aspects, economic, social, cultural, spiritual, etc. should be taken into consideration and application. After almost 8 years insane policy under Bush, the US is now in a very difficult period, as everyone knows. Obama cannot bring miracles, empty promises will turn out to be huge disappointments. Illusions cannot solve US problems. .
Universal's American Gangster to be next big HD DVD exclusive
Even with the tide apparently shifting in Blu-ray Disc's favor, the HD DVD camp isn't about to relent in the on-going high-definition format war. HD DVD still commands a significant portion of exclusive content and the most affordable hardware, giving the format a fighting chance – and nobody believes in HD DVD more than Universal Studios executive vice president Ken Graffeo, who also serves as the co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group. The HD DVD Group was rather mum on Warner's surprise announcement right before CES to go Blu-ray Disc exclusive and cancelled its Sunday press conference. Graffeo, speaking to BetaNews, explains, "We heard about the whole move when everyone else did – when a lot of us were on planes flying to CES in Las Vegas ... If we had our press event on Monday, it would have been different, but because it was right there on Sunday and we heard Friday afternoon we couldn't even get to everybody ...
