| Chicago-style hot dogs coming to Moreno Valley
A restaurant opening in March in Moreno Valley promises to bring customers a taste of Chicago, with some Prohibition-era nostalgia on the side. Illinois-based Portillo Restaurant Group, among the largest privately held restaurant companies in the Midwest, plans to open its second California location of Portillo's Hot Dogs on March 11. It is under construction at 12840 Day St., in the TownGate Square commercial center. Company spokeswoman Patty Sullivan said the Moreno Valley restaurant will be similar to the company's first California location, which opened in 2005 in Buena Park. It is designed in a Prohibition-era theme, and the walls are lined with Chicago photos, artifacts and other memorabilia dating from that period into the 1940s. "There are a lot of Chicago transplants there who know us," Sullivan said about the Inland area.
Rudd emailed corrupt pollie Brian Burke
THE office of the Prime Minister has admitted a member of Kevin Rudd's staff sent emails to disgraced West Australian lobbyist Brian Burke. It is understood that while he was Opposition foreign affairs spokesman, with an eye on the ALP leadership, Mr Rudd had email exchanges with Mr Burke about a possible meeting. The importance of the emails and their content relate to whether Mr Rudd has been totally candid about his relationship with Mr Burke. Sources in Western Australia have told The Sunday Telegraph they have seen the emails, dating back to 2005, and that they were aimed at getting Mr Burke to help lift Mr Rudd's profile inside the Labor Party - especially in WA. But Mr Rudd's office insists the emails relate only to the "logistics'' of a cancelled dinner, although the office has refused to reveal the number or the precise content of the messages in question.

He did not give a date for reconvening the committee. Reilley also addressed in his letter the additional problem of chaff, a waxy membrane on the unroasted coffee bean that becomes airborne and emits fine particles from the stack during the roasting process. He said he had changed the airflow and the roasting schedule and made a slight change in the procedure. Reilley estimated the improvements would cost $5,000. Rock City Coffee Roasters is one of the businesses credited with starting the revival of the city's downtown economy 16 years ago, said City Manager Tom Hall. "We don't want to put a very important cornerstone business out of business," Hall said last month. The company's South Main Street roastery, which has been roasting coffee at the site since 1999, and combination coffee shop and secondhand bookstore on Main Street employ 24 people.

We don't really need them to score when they're getting the ball to guys, where they're getting the ball to them," the coach said. Through intense film work and through the expected maturation of the 24-year-old Ford and the 26-year-old Calderon, the duo is learning to make better decisions and discovering the intricacies of their teammates in a revamped rotation that has two new starters and three new key backups. "It doesn't matter that much," said Ford. "Each individual, I understand their game, I know what those guys' tendencies are and I just change up my style depending who's in the game. "I watched so much film growing up as a kid and in college and I sort of got away from it in the NBA. Now coach Mike (Evans) gets with me every day, after every game, we study the good decisions I make and the bad decisions." Calderon, meanwhile, returns with another boost of confidence from a successful summer with the Spanish national team, which finished second in the European championships.

Wind blowing money farmers' way
Coupled with a worldwide shortage of turbines and a falling dollar, the resulting scarcity is driving up the cost of wind power — a burden that electricity ratepayers ultimately will shoulder. Oregon's largest utility, Portland General Electric (PGE), recently persuaded regulators to let it charge ratepayers for deposits it needs to place on scarce turbines and wind sites, arguing in part that in a few years, there might not be any good sites left "at any price." The center of Oregon's wind rush is Sherman County. "This is the biggest thing that's happened in Sherman County since they switched from horses to tractors," said Kevin McCullough, a fourth-generation wheat farmer whose 4,000 acres are crawling with contractors, crew-cab pickups and semi rigs hauling in turbine parts from the Port of Vancouver.
Bonds on Bonds on MSNBC, part II
Gray asked if Bonds would want Anderson to answer questions from the grand jury. "I have no idea about anything," Bonds said. Bonds also said of Anderson, "All I know is that Greg Anderson was my friend. And Greg Anderson said that he never ever did anything to me. And I believe him." At one point, Gray asked how Bonds answers those who are suspicious because Bonds' power numbers improved as he got older. Bonds said, "Hank Aaron's production increased as he got older, Alex Rodriguez's production's increasing as he's getting older, and mine ain't really gone down yet. Think about it." Another notable answer from Bonds came when Gray asked if the team that might be interested in bringing on Bonds should be concerned about the baggage that comes with having Bonds on the team.
