| Sinatra style dropped in favor of ad-attracting oldies
Aiming to snare a younger demographic, WNMX-FM (106.1) abruptly changed formats Tuesday, moving from adult standards like Tony Bennett to the "oldies" music of the '60s and '70s. "It's a younger first cousin to what we were doing," said Tom Gentry, general manager. In making the change, WNMX fills a void left when Clear Channel radio pulled the plug on WWMG-FM ("Magic") in September 2004 and replaced it with the rhythmic-pop WIBT-FM ("The Beat" 96.1). Ken Conrad will continue to host the station's morning show. There were no staff changes because of the format change, Gentry said. WNMX had used the standards format for a decade, blending top artists dating to the Eisenhower era that included Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Gentry said the new format -- with the bulk of the music drawn from the glory days of the baby boomer era -- would likely be more attractive to advertisers, luring an audience about 10 to 12 years younger.

The blonde beauty sets the record straight on reports she's planning to marry a third time. Contrary to various reports, UMA THURMAN is not engaged to Swiss millionaire ARPAD BUSSON. While the couple has been dating since July, Uma's rep tells ET there is no truth to rumors the two are planning to tie the knot any time soon. Uma has previously been married to GARY OLDMAN and to ETHAN HAWKE. Arpad dated supermodel ELLE MACPHERSON for 10 years before they split in 2005. They have two sons, ARPAD FLYNN and AURELIUS. .
Public-works agency plan advances
Wilder's administration proposes as part of a shakeup creating a new Department of General Services to manage the city's buildings and vehicle fleet -- both sources of scandal last year. The Public Works Department came under fire last spring in a critical audit of its management of the vehicle fleet. Last fall, a contract custodian was arrested for breaking into an office at the John Marshall Courts Building and employees of three other private firms were accused of using city phones to dial sex and dating lines when they were supposed to be working. After the fleet audit, the administration divided the Department of Public Works into three divisions because the organization's scope had become unmanageable. The department, for example, was responsible for functions ranging from trash collection to engineering to automotive repair to animal control.
Weston hike explores human activity
The New Canaan Nature Center has scheduled a hike in Devil's Den in Weston for Saturday, March 8. Participants will search for signs of human activity dating back thousands of years. Volunteer guide Al Noe of Weston will lead hikers through the natural beauty of The Den to see evidence of the semi-nomadic Native Americans who once called the area home. The hike features a 3.3-mile hike that includes a vista from Deer Knoll, examination of the mechanical remains of a portable sawmill, a Native American shelter site, Godfrey Pond and the ruins of a water powered sawmill, and a charcoal-making site. Depending on the amount of interest at each site, this moderate hike should be completed in two to two-and-a-half hours. Mr. Noe has been leading hikes for adults and school groups at Devil's Den for more than six years.

Normally, I don't talk about what other sites -- especially those that some might consider competition -- is doing, but this was something I found interesting. I've been dating a wonderful man for six years—he's compassionate, smart, funny, and successful—but there's a huge problem. Every weekend since we've been together (that's a lot of weekends), he drives back to his hometown—six hours away, each way. Mind you, he's not in college anymore. He's been out of school for well over a decade. He often gets irritated because he doesn't understand why I don't want to spend my weekends at his parents' home—they are neither sick nor elderly. The 20-year-old told U.S. magazine In Touch Weekly he had signed up to Jewish dating site JDate.com - even though he isn't Jewish. MCCartney, who recently ended his romance with David Cassidy's daughter Katie, admits he did join the website - but only for amusement and not as a serious way to meet women. He tells America's Us Weekly, "I just wanted to set the record straight and let everyone know that the profile I created on JDate was a joke! "I was hanging' with some friends and we thought that it would be really funny to see peoples' reactions. The hilarity of it all is that until I announced having a profile on the site, nobody believed it was me.
Two dead after Valentine's Day tiff
A Northern Territory man shot dead his partner and stuffed her body in a freezer on a rural property outside of Katherine, before turning the gun on himself. Police found the bodies of the unemployed couple in the Helena Road area, 8km north-west of Katherine, about 4am (CST) on Valentine's Day morning. They had been called to the property 12 hours earlier - and cordoned off the area and evacuated several houses - following reports of a disturbance involving a gun. The couple, known in the neighbourhood for their recent relationship problems, were believed to have been aged in their 50s and had been dating for about two years, today's NT News reported. A neighbour told the paper the dead man, known only as Wayne, and his girlfriend Jacqueline Morrison were drinking at the property on Wednesday when they got into a heated argument.
