| Rapper Mr. Serv-On Writes Dating Book For Black Women
Former No Limit Soldier Mr. Serv-On is gearing up for his return to the public eye, via a new dating and relationship guide written by the artist himself. Entitled Inside the Mind of Brothas: A Young Black Man's Guide for Black Women Trying to Survive the Dating Game in Today's Hip-Hop Generation, the book aims to resolve the most common conflicts faced by young African-American couples today. “Seventy percent of the time, Black Women's hearts get broken because of their own blind misjudgment and greediness for a man based on outside attributes," explained Mr. Serv-On. “With this book, I hope to teach women about today's Black men in the Hip-Hop community, so that the playing fields are equal and every black woman will end up with the right guy," the rapper continued.
Al-Qaeda's white army of terror
Security experts say the growing secret army of white terrorists poses a particularly serious threat as they are far less likely to be detected than members of the Asian community.Since the 7/7 and 21/7 London bombings, police and intelligence services have had considerable success in identifying, disrupting and stopping extremist plots. As a result, groups such as al-Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen have been forced to change tack. Converting white non-Muslims has been one response. The trend is well established in the United States. American-born Adam Gadahn is one of the FBI's top 10 most-wanted terrorists after converting to Islam and rising through al-Qaeda's ranks to become a prominent spokesman. One British security source last night told Scotland on Sunday: "There could be anything up to 1,500 converts to the fundamentalist cause across Britain.
McCain’s life experiences will suit road ahead
John McCain was not my first choice. Or even the second or third. He'd be far more appealing with a Southern conservative as a running mate — former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, or Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, to name three. But conservative running mate or not, Mitt Romney's class-act exit leaves McCain without serious challenge for the nomination. And as both Romney and McCain noted in same-day speeches to the Conservative Political Action Conference, this election is not about shades of gray. "Elections in this country are fought within margins of small differences," said McCain. "This one will not be. We are arguing about hugely consequential things." Romney's departing words defined the immediate course for conservatives.
At least when I was skint, Caroline Flint wasn't around to shatter my ...
Like many a hack, every so often I get a missive from a bright young thing asking for advice on how to become, well, me. All very flattering until the questions start - best journalism course to take; college to attend; career path to weave. At which point, the whole thing becomes disconcerting on several different levels: first, these clever, ambitious charmers are clearly after my job (Anne Baxter in All About Eve, via email). Second, and most crucially, I have no gems of wisdom to impart about journalism courses, internships and the rest, because I never got to do any of that. Indeed, my overriding thought as I hamfistedly attempt to reply ('Avoid everything I did') is a slightly sad one. How would the person I used to be (young, up for it, but also penniless, clueless, without a middle-class safety net) get on in 2008? In these changing times, what are the breaks for people like me? The answer is, one suspects, not many.
The Wrong Version of Nick Lowe's Debut Album Is Being Reissued
For better or worse, English song-o-matic dispenser Nick Lowe's debut solo album was deemed worthy of two versions. The British one, Jesus of Cool, came out on Radar, the label founded by Jake Riviera after he split from Stiff, wherein Lowe, a punk and postpunk godfather, had earned the handle "Basher" for his in-three-takes-or-less approach as house producer for Graham Parker, the Damned, and Elvis Costello. The American version, retitled Pure Pop for Now People, was released by Columbia. Both came out in March of '78, and both include basically the same songs. Still, Pure Pop is better than Jesus—the rub is in the track listing—but it's Jesus that's getting a 30th-anniversary reissue. It all starts at the beginning: Album openers are paramount in setting the tone. Jesus went with "Music for Money," a robotic new wave number that has Lowe wryly indicting the record biz: "Gibsons for gain/Reddies for roadies/Fenders for fame." Meantime, Pure Pop revs up with "So It Goes," an exemplar of the album title, with triumphant drums, a snappy refrain, and a curious narrative about Russians, a "snaky" Persian, and a kid who cuts off his right arm "in a fit to save a bit of power." Its title quite obviously apes Kurt Vonnegut's shit-happens mantra from Slaughterhouse-Five; regardless, it's a more telling preamble to the grab bag of expertly crafted three-minute ditties that Lowe convenes here.
Labor News Roundup
Just as in previous years, if you do not set the record straight other media outlets will wrongfully use the "Coordinator III" figure as the average pay for Starbucks' most common hourly worker. I believe the real problem here is that your 'Best Companies to Work For' list is created by a consulting firm, even arguably a public relations firm, called the 'Great Place to Work Institute' and not a serious research organization. The 'Great Place to Work Institute' uses methodologies which don't even come close to those used in scientific surveys. Please do what you should have done last year and set the record straight. I also urge you to drop the 'Great Place to Work Institute' and engage a serious research organization for Fortune's 'Best Companies to Work For' list. I expect your prompt attention to this matter." Carmen Kontur-Gronquist loses job as mayor after posing in underwear
ARLINGTON, Ore. - The mayor of an Oregon town who once stripped to her underwear and posed on a fire truck has been stripped of her office. Voters in this town of about 500 voted narrowly Monday to recall Carmen Kontur-Gronquist. The tally was 142-139. City officials said the recall is effective Tuesday. Kontur-Gronquist said the pictures of her in black bra and panties were taken for use in a contest about fitness, but a relative posted them on MySpace in hopes it would improve the social life of the single mother. .
Anger as royals snub Hillary funeral
NO member of the British royal family will attend the funeral of Sir Edmund Hillary in Auckland tomorrow, sparking outrage from locals who viewed the mountaineer as New Zealand royalty. Hillary died, aged 88, at his Auckland home on January 11 after a long illness. It had been expected the Queen would send a member of her family to represent the British royals at the state funeral, but it was announced on the weekend that New Zealand Governor-General Anand Satyanand would represent the head ofstate. Australia's Governor-General, Michael Jeffrey, will not attend the funeral, having already been committed to travel to Antarctica tomorrow to open the continent's new airport runway. Given that Hillary, the first man to climb Mt Everest with sherpa Tenzing Norgay, is regularly described as "New Zealand's greatest", the failure of any British royals to attend his funeral has been taken as a snub.

Erap: handa akong maging Pangulo muli
This is the first time that's why I'm telling the mayor, masaya pala at maganda," aniya. “I love flowers, all kinds" pabiro pang sabi ni Erap. Pagkagaling sa Panagbenga Festival diretso si Erap sa Baguio Country Club para makipagpulong sa mga lokal na lider ng oposisyon dito.
