Rams offer new hope in new course
In more ways than one, the Rams are in transition. The franchise changed hands with the death of beloved owner Georgia Frontiere. Her son, Chip Rosenbloom, is in control now, though it will take time for him to assume a more proactive role. To their credit, the Rams aren't moping around, waiting for a dramatic transformation to occur, until a new course is set by Rosenbloom. Instead, the front office and coaching staff are making things happen. "We just have to go," Rams general manager Jay Zygmunt said. "We're circling the wagons. We don't get this time back. It's an important offseason. You just can't stop." The Rams are off to an encouraging start in their attempt to dig out from under a disastrous 3-13 season. .
One Famewhore to Another: Call Me Cupcake
Everyone's favorite "Real Housewives" exes, Slade Smiley and Jo De La Rosa, are back to swapping spit ... to both the relief and horror of ... everyone. Sure, it's through the medium of a sweet, candy-topped cupcake, but the two are still looking mighty chummy. There was another chick hidden in the backseat -- though if that's Slade's new girlfriend, Jo probably shouldn't have been riding shotgun. .
Hilary's Love Natter
Hilary Swank has been well and truly struck by... Cupid's arrow of lurve. In an interview with W magazine for the January edition, Hilary has spoken about her relationship with her agent, John Campisi. She told the magazine: "Of course I'm in love. Or I wouldn't be in this relationship for as long as I've been. He's a great guy." Hilary parted from her husband of eight years, Chad Lowe, in 2006. And it seems it ain't only the lurve that gives her a healthy glow. She's revealed she takes up to 45 supplements a day. During the interview she said: "I just took my most important ones, which are my Oz Garcia Longevity Pak. "I shoved them in my mouth right before I met you, which I actually shouldn't do, because I choked on my vitamins once before." She went on to say: "Exercise is also really important to me.
Campfield sings same old song
State Rep. Stacey Campfield, who has supplied more joke material to comedians than a team of scriptwriters, is back on his soapbox again. This time, the Knoxville Republican wants to prohibit any mention of homosexuality in public school classes, pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. Any mention, you understand. Instead, it must be heterosexual. Meaning if Johnny or Suzy asks a pointed question in social studies about U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, or in gym about Olympic diver Greg Louganis, or in biology about asexual reproduction in certain mosses or worms, the teacher will have to change the subject. After washing Johnny's or Suzy's mouth out with lye soap. OK, so I'm teasing about the soap. Maybe it can be Dial or Irish Spring instead of lye. But the fact remains that Campfield, who never met a headline he didn't love to grab, is back to his tricks of brewing tempests in tea pots.

Holy mole, Angela's serves real Mexican
Take Angela's Cafe. If you don't know your way around East Boston, it's quite a bit harder to find. But once you home in, you won't forget how to get there. Angela's is memorable. As with most memorable restaurants, that has a lot to do with the people who work there. It's a family business. Luis Garcia, son of the chef, makes the rounds in the tiny, goldenrod-colored room. He is chatty and welcoming, full of information about the restaurant's food, the status of its wine and beer license (hopefully in a few months, he says), and its history. Before his family opened the restaurant five months ago, Angela's Cafe was a pizzeria. He'll remember you on your second visit. Then there's the chef herself, Angela Atenco Lopez. Having cooked professionally in Puebla, a center of Mexican gastronomy and her home till five years ago, she now prepares the dishes of that region here (plus the likes of pancakes, steak bomb subs, and ziti).
Baker duo dominate Yosemite Lanes tournament
The prize list is out for the Friendship Doubles' BVL Tournament at Yosemite Lanes, and it looks like Rose and Ralph Baker owned the event. The pair took first place with a 1,945 set, 165 pins over the second-place finishers. Rose started the day with a no-tap 300 game, and Ralph added a 277. Ralph took charge in the second and third games, posting two no-tap 300 games to Rose's 252 and 168. With their 348 pins handicap, the pair handily won the event. Dominic Genova teamed with Carl Elvik to roll a 1,780 doubles series for second. Both Genova and Elvik recorded a no-tap 300 game in the set. The duo of Guy Johnson and Elvin Ghan finished third with a team total of 1,763. The fund-raising tournament paid 10 spots in the prize fund with low-in-the-money at 1,702.
