Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries of 1999
This is a large-scale high terrace graveyard of the Liangzhu Culture, with rigorous layout and planning. An area of about 1,000 square meters has been excavated. In 1999, a total of 13 large and middle-sized tombs of the early and middle stages of the Liangzhu Culture were excavated and screened, from which a total of 155 pieces (sets) of various kinds of jade articles, and stone and pottery wares were unearthed. Within the cleared graveyard area of 400 square meters, the tombs were distributed in the form of a herringbone facing the northwest and northeast. The site is extensive. The No.13 tomb is so far the largest ever found of the Liangzhu Culture, and is one of the best preserved. Its scale and burial objects may indicate the high social position of the occupant. The few but high-quality jade articles used as burial objects may symbolize another type of funeral of the Liangzhu Culture.
JIM MATEJA: Malibu hybrid takes a walk on the mild side
Standard equipment includes power mirrors/windows/locks along with air conditioning, rear-window defogger and AM/FM stereo radio with CD player. But, being a hybrid, a couple things are left off to save weight and thus energy: Power seats and power sunroof. Malibu is a roomy, comfortable, stylish sedan with above average performance and a decent price plus a hybrid for those keeping tabs on this planet's energy supply. Chevy general manager Ed Peper says the hybrid will account for 3 to 4 percent of Malibu sales of at least 100,000 units annually. He may be on the low side. (STORY CAN END HERE) 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU HYBRID: Wheelbase: 112.3 inches Length 191.8 inches Engine: 2.4-liter, 164-h.p.

Former Mormon missionary gets prison in Nevada child sex case
A former Mormon missionary was sentenced Thursday to two to six years in prison after a judge ruled he violated terms of a plea deal that called for him to complete counseling and community service. The judge decreed John Misseldine, 26, guilty of lewdness with a child under the age of 14 and coercion, and ordered him to register and submit to monitoring as a sex offender. The felony charges, dating to 2003, had been stayed under terms of the October 2005 plea deal. ``I still maintain my innocence in this case,'' Misseldine said when Clark County District Judge Donald Mosley asked him to speak. The judge dismissed Misseldine's assertions that the claims against him were false and a scheme by the girls' families to get money from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sex, Romance Fades At JDate As World Of Jewish Fine Tunes Dating
Jerusalem ----August 17 ....... Talk about sex appeal, then talk about the World of Jewish. Talk about boredom and tired formulas, then talk JDate. There was a time when Jewish singles looking for a match through the Internet went straight to JDate, the largest Internet based Jewish dating service. The idea was simple, fill in a short questionnaire based on your dating preferences and the JDate search engine would return a listing of all those of the opposite sex that answer to your criteria. If you saw someone in the listing, you paid JDate a good sum of money to be in touch by email with your potential match. For a yearly fee approaching a couple of hundred dollars, you could search JDate's listings and be in touch with whomever you desired. Now, when you think of it, a couple of hundred of dollars a year may not sound like so much, especially with this virtual smorgasbord of potential Jewish dating mates at your fingertips.
Dick Spotswood: College's IVC progress raises questions
ODDS & ENDS: Ignored on Super Tuesday was Ralph "there's no difference between George Bush and Al Gore" Nader's selection as the presidential nominee of both the left-leaning Green and the Peace and Freedom parties. In Marin, 492 voters marked their ballots for Nader, mostly under the Green Party banner. This means Ralph Nader will be on November's presidential ballot. THIS YEAR'S congressional election in the Marin-Sonoma Sixth District should be cut and dry. Incumbent Democrat Lynn Woolsey will run for reelection and win a ninth term, but she will have opposition. At least one Republican will make a race of it. Mike Halliwell, Republican of Cotati, has thrown his hat into the ring. The retired Long Beach State University educator is a self-described member of the moderate "Peter Behr-Bill Filante Brand of Republicanism." Two years ago, Halliwell gave the same North Bay race a shot but lost in a rare contested GOP primary.
Parties signal axe over spare channel
So I think it would be appropriate for me to look at it as a part of a re-elected government ... to ensure it's not going to be more broadly defined than the legislation intended," she said. "We don't want to eliminate things that are interesting, but I do reiterate our original view that it's not going to be a look-alike fourth channel by stealth." Senator Conroy agreed. "If ACMA has a broader definition than parliament intended itwould be a matter of concern," he said. ACMA spokesman Donald Robertson said the legislation prevented him from revealing how many section 21 applications had been received. He said ACMA's opinion would be published only "when the service about which the opinion has been sought has commenced".
Hip-Hop Rumors: Ray-J / Kay Slay! Update on Dr. Donda West! Paris ...
Shout out to Wendy Williams and Charlamagne…I checked them out yesterday and their show is funny. Wendy was talking about how she had these rumors on Lil' Kim and they were thinking something was gonna happen to her. Wendy was there during the real era, before the blogger zone. (If she leaves New York, she should move to Delaware or Philly!) Jay-Z did the Apollo last night. I didn't hear anything crazy though. I heard Nelly, Diddy, Chamillionaire and Beyonce came out to enjoy the show. I heard Jigga performed with Nas, Beanie, Freeway, Bleek and the Young Gunz. Rumor has it, B got her groove on through the whole show. “Me give my heart to a woman – never," Jay-Z once rapped. I heard DJ Kay Slay is hosting the new Ray-J mixtape.
